Day 8 Dives 21 &22

Dive 21
This morning Will was up at 6:25am.  That is very early for him!  I'm a little worried about the gym today.
The dive goes well.  It's Mr. Kenny and Ms. Sherrie, Mr. John, Mr. Richard and Ms. Maria and Will and myself.  Will was happy and ready to go!  Doc is back on the television.

Day 8 at the gym
As I mentioned Will woke up early!  His energy in the beginning was good.  Check out the warm up exercises.  He's getting the hang of them!

The bolster went better today too.

Now on to the stairs.  Will claims to love the stairs these days.  The only problem is it takes him awhile to do them so it eats up at big chunk of time.  Today I wondered if a timer might help.  I think it did...a bit.

After that it just got ugly.  Will got scared standing up at the big mirror again.  No amount of flower/candle breathing got him through it.  I can't share it with you.  It's just too sad.  I don't know why he was fixed on falling today, but his fear of falling really does get in the way of his success of standing.  He just cried and cried today.  Miss Tiffany did her best to validate his fear and talk him through it...but again, 6:25am enters into my mind.

So, after the mirror Will moved on to pushing the cart.  Again, ugly.  He fell twice, pulling the shopping cart on top of him both times.  It scared him and hurt too.  Poor buddy.  Can we start this day over?

How about a scooter race?  That should raise his spirits!

Fast forward to the bike.  Will was once again asked if he wanted to ride the bike.  Yes!  So, let's see it!

I love that he decided where he wants to go...and went!  Today Miss Tiffany offered a new location.  Up the elevator to the upstairs!

How cool would be it to ride your bike into the elevator and hitch a ride upstairs!  Will thought it was really cool.  Here's a shot of him heading back downstairs.

Pretty cool huh!

Dive 22
We're back in the spaceship with Mr. Kenny and Ms. Sherrie, Mr. John and today a new diver, Ms. Lydia.  We''ll she's new to us.  I guess she was here right before Will started and then took a vacation.  She's back now.  She sits next to Will and instantly strikes up a conversation with him.  I like her already!

  1. I sympathize with Will being tired, things are harder to do. I gotta share w/ you my hearing loss. I had normal hearing till I was about 25. Now I've lost over 50% of my hearing. Hearing aids help. But, on days I'm tired or a long day and its late, or days when I didn't get much sleep the night before. I just can't hear. It's all noise to me.
See for me to hear I take what I do hear, decipher it into sentences, think about what the speaker subject is, read lips & think about what they are saying. So when my brain is tired its all mah, mah whah, whah.
I could only imagine what your Will is doing to think for each movement, to hear, to translate what the therapist wants and then tell his little body to do it. He sure is a trooper. GOOD JOB WILL!

  2. Thanks Stacy for sharing. We all take things for granted. It's good to be reminded of this every once in awhile. Thank you for telling your story!

The Final Week! A fun filled weekend with family and dives 27 &28

Happy Monday!  It's week 3.  We're almost finished.  Will is ready to go home.  He is missing his Daddy, (and he just saw him yesterday!). Phil and the kids came in Friday night and stayed until yesterday afternoon.  We filled the weekend with as much as we could!  Two movies (me and big kids), 3 dives (Will and his daddy), indoor skydiving (Ben and Isabel), and church (together!)!  Together again!  My kiddos!  Will's waving to the camera! All the happy divers...Phil, Grandma Linda, Mason (front and center!) Josie and Will! I had a fun surprise for Ben and Isabel!  Indoor Skydiving!  They LOVED it!  Score one for MOM!  It was fun to watch.  Will said he's going to do it next time!  I might just try it too!   They take you out once to let you figure it out and then give you a second flight to go much higher! The first video shows Isabel's first flight, the instructor said sh...

Hello Friday!!! Dives 36 and 37

Dive 36- Josie and Will.  Started the day with another dose and oxygen and Mickey Mouse! Our last solo workout in Miss Tiffany's gym.  We skipped the yoga today and went right for the stairs.  Will grabbed his canes and some friends and got started.  As he was walking it occurred to me how often I took for granted when Ben and Isabel went walking across the floor with toys in their hands.  Just think about that for a minute...then watch this video! He carried Mario and Luigi to the stairs.  I carried them up the stairs and then he proceeded to throw them down.  Typical kiddo! After getting hurled down the stairs now poor Mario has to be thrown in a hoop!  Poor guy! He threw all of Mario's friends in the basket too.   Then he made his way across the room to leave Miss Tiffany one last message.  He made it about halfway when he fell, but you know Will, he got right up and finished the job! I think Will enjoy...

Week 3, Tuesday, Dives 29 & 30

Dive 29- Mr. Will and Josie.  Mickey Mouse, our morning ritual! After the dive Will headed over to Miss Tiffany's gym.  I guess we'll stick around, he likes working in there!  He basically set the whole day up, I only added one thing!  He started himself on the stairs.  I just stood back and filmed! Rock on , Mr. Will! This next thing I added.  The next time you get up from sitting (in a chair for example) think about what all goes into that. I think this will be something he could master when we come back this summer!  By the way, Miss Tiffany will be back for that one!   Back to Will's plan.  He didn't want me to video him getting into position but I thought it showed a lot of good work on Will's part.  Pulling yourself on a scooter is an amazing workout!   Now for the "real" video.  Will set up all the pins and now he is kicking them over, according to his plan! Miss Cheryl poppe...
