4th Day at the gym, Dive 10 &11

I am so confused on what day it is!  Phil, Ben and Isabel are coming up tomorrow for the weekend!  I am so excited about it, I keep questioning if tomorrow is really Friday already.  When I am here it's so hard for me to keep my days straight.  I just focus on what Will needs to do each day and only what he needs to do for that day.  One day at a time, that's what we do!  As for today...it was pretty awesome. This morning's dive went smoothly.  Baby Milleigh didn't sleep well last night, so she was peacefully sleeping for much of the "flight". Day 4 at the gym was the best one yet!  Will worked hard, got a lot accomplished and with minimal whining! Will started out on the bench again working on those transitions.  He's getting better, if he just remembers the steps and doesn't get too busy talking! After he got his spacesuit on Miss Tiffany had him standing again.  This time he was blasting off to Infinity and Beyond! Did you no...

Day 3 at the gym, Dive 8 & 9

Another busy day for Will, this one started off better than yesterday.  Dive #8 was pretty uneventful, that's a good thing!  The movie of choice wouldn't play so Cap. David had to go with Cars.  It didn't hold Will's attention as well as the others but he still did great.  I am so proud of him in that chamber.  He is a champ under that space helmet.  He just sits back, flies Buzz around and watches the movie. Day 3 at the gym was better than yesterday although you can tell that it's the third day.  Will is starting to get tired.  Miss Tiffany says this is a normal occurrence for Wednesday of the first week.  For being a tired little boy Will still did a lot of great things!  Look at this video and then try it for yourself!  What a hard working boy! I love the look on Will's face and how he puts his hands down to his sides so quickly.  They worked on that yesterday.     Ok, here's another standing video....

Dive 6 & 7 and Day 2 in the gym!

What a busy day!  First let me start off by saying Will did not sleep well last night.  I just knew the gym was going to be hard.  But back to the beginning.  Dive #6 went well.  Yesterday afternoon we had a full flight.  One of the "passengers" was a little girl, I think 9 months, from the Jefferson City area.  Come to find out she and Will see the same Neurologist!  How's that for a small world!  So this morning she and her Mommy were back in the spaceship.  It was nice to have another adult to talk to, especially someone who could share experiences and doctor stories with.  It made the flight go by much quicker than usual.  Will enjoyed a video that his kindergarten teacher sent and I talked the whole time.  Perfect! Again, Miss Tiffany was waiting outside the door.  She's awesome! Over in the gym life was not as easy.  Like I said poor Mr. Will did not have a peaceful night's sleep.  Miss Tiffany didn'...

Dive 4/ Day 1 of Suit Therapy/ Dive 5

Well, Will survived our first FULL day!  He started with an 8am dive, that went quite well.  He and I have a routine now.  When we "take-off" and our ears are popping I start to rub his ears and sing our songs.  Sometimes it's normal vowel sounds other times we throw all kinds of words into the mix.  It's fun for Will and beneficial too!  This morning the in flight movie was Doc McStuffins.  Will watched the movie the whole time. When Captain David opened the chamber door guess who was waiting to say hi...Miss Tiffany!  I think Will was caught off guard.  He has been talking about Tiffany since we got here, but there she was and he couldn't say anything! I brought Will out of the chamber and introduced Miss Tiffany to Zipper, Will's new wheels.  Will showed Miss Tiffany how he could get around and rolled himself right into the gym. I think Will was ready to get to the gym!  He and Tiffany got right to it.  I stepped out of t...

Dive #3

Sunday is a day of rest, as it should be.  Today Will only had 1 dive.  I was thankful for that.  Those dives wear me out!  Will is full of energy, but mama is tired!   I am sorry about yesterday's post.  I really didn't give you any information.  I was just zapped!  So let me tell you a little more about the spaceship and our flight. Here's the inside of the spaceship.  Will can take movies to watch on the TV.  He sits in the middle seat. When we first "take-off" Will does not have his "helmet" on.  That's when the dive starts.  If you think about scuba diving, you dive into the water and then just keep swimming (sorry, that made me think of Dory on Little Nemo!).  The pressure in the chamber changes during this time and you have to pop your ears several times like you do when you dive (i guess) or when flying in a plane, which is what I'm more familiar with.  Again, Will does not have his helmet on so ...

Kansas CIty... Third time for Intensive Suit Therapy- First time for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Will is so excited to be here again!  He started talking about Kansas City about a week ago.  I guess he knows when his body is ready for more!  I'm so glad he looks forward to this therapy every time.  It's not easy, but he still has fun!  Intensive Suit Therapy starts Monday with Miss Tiffany, but this time we are getting a head start with "Captain" David and the oxygen chamber, otherwise known as the SPACESHIP (bet you're all surprised!)! http://www.oxygenunderpressure.com/ You can check out the link above to find out all about this chamber/spaceship.  Who would have thought Oxygen could help some many people with so many different conditions.  Honestly, we're not entirely sure what it will do for Mr. Will.  It may have more to do with his processing time than any motor progress.  That would be a perfect combination.  Captain David works on the brain, Miss Tiffany works on the body!  Time will tell!   He had two "d...

Fast Forward 4 1/2 months...

I really must find time to blog at home!  This is ridiculous, it's as if all we do is come to Kansas City for therapy, which is were we are again!   Let me quickly catch you up... After Will and I left "the gym" for the last session in October, we hit the road for home.  Only we made a quick stop in Grain Valley, MO to pick up the newest member of our family!         Miss Ivy Isn't she just the cutest!  Will and I secretly got to pick her out during our last stay.  It worked out perfectly to bring her home.  The best part was the surprise.  Ben and Isabel had no idea!  Iz has been begging for a dog for months and even did some rather impressive research.  Ivy is a Goldendoodle, a breed that is supposed to be the best of Golden Retrievers and Poodles.  Ivy is a mini, so she won't get as big as either of those breeds.  She has turned out to be a great pet so far!  Ivy is very friendly a...
